What is Kalamkari?
Kalamkari is a 3000-year-old art form practiced in Andhra Pradesh, a type of hand printed or hand block printed cotton textile. This is an ancient style of hand painting that is done with a tamarind pen, using natural dyes.
Fabric: Kalamkari Cotton
Size: L*W*H = 15.5*15*3 inches (Length: Top to Bottom, Width: Side to Side, Height: Sides)
Wash Care: Hand wash with cold water mild detergent. Please do not soak in water for long. No Machine wash or Dry Clean Only
About the makers:
Unfortunately, millions of tonnes of textiles are discarded every year causing pollution and landfill waste. The women from disadvantaged communities bring back the trashed fabric waste from factories repurposing them to have another life. Pure Mitti's mission is to reduce fabric waste.
Since all the bags are hand crafted using traditional hand painted work , if you see certain slubs on the fabric or smudge of color around hand block work, it is because of the very nature of the handcrafted process. These imperfections/variations do not compromise the aesthetics or functionality of the handbag and are hallmark of handmade work
